Hi,

After I made a post in the machine polishing section, I obviously need to buy new pad(s).

The car is a VW from the early nineties.

There is not too much heavy damage, although there are a lot of swirls etc. and the paint I understand is quite hard.

So, I already have a bottle of Meguiars Ultimate Compound (consumer).

The kit I am thinking of buying is :

Chemical Guys Orange medium compounding pad for use with the Ultimate Compound
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/machine-polishing-pads/chemical-guys-hexlogic-quantum-pads/6-pad-fits-5-backing-plate-/chemical-guys-orange-quantum-pad-5-5-/prod_1678.html

Then a bottle of Meguiars Ultimate Polish, and a chemical guys green pad to pair with it
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/machine-polishing-pads/chemical-guys-hexlogic-quantum-pads/6-pad-fits-5-backing-plate-/chemical-guys-green-quantum-pad-5-5-/prod_1679.html

So the orange pad goes with the Ultimate Compound, and the green pad goes with the Ultimate Polish.

Are there any tweaks I should make to this, for example should I get the Chemical Guys white pad instead of the green one?

Have a look at the Meguiars Microfiber System. Used it on a 2002 Black BMW, last year and I would say I removed 90-95% of ALL defects and the paintwork was really bad

Very interesting, I didn't really know about this. Thanks for that, certainly on the compounding front that kit looks very promising!
